Astana, Jul 2 (EFE).- Chinese President Xi Jinping<\/strong> arrived Tuesday on a state visit to Kazakhstan<\/strong>, where he is to participate in the summit of the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization<\/strong><\/a> (SCO).<\/p>\n

The SCO summit is scheduled to be held between July 3-4 in Astana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev<\/strong> received Xi at Astana airport. Afterwards, a detachment of the National Guard paid him military honors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Xi’s fifth state visit to Kazakhstan<\/h2>\n

This is the Chinese leader’s fifth state visit to Kazakhstan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina stands ready to join hands<\/strong> with Kazakhstan in response to the changes of historic significance<\/strong> that are taking place in our world and in our times. We need to foster new opportunities amid crises<\/strong>, and open up new horizons on a shifting landscape,\u201d Xi said in an article by Kazakh state-owned Kazinform<\/strong><\/a> agency on Tuesday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cChina<\/strong> will work with Kazakhstan<\/strong> to uphold<\/strong> the international system with the United Nations<\/strong> at its core and the international order underpinned by international<\/strong> law, act on true multilateralism<\/strong>, oppose hegemonism, power politics and bloc confrontation,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After bilateral talks<\/a> with his Kazakh counterpart<\/strong>, Xi is to participate in the summit of the leaders of the SCO. Furthermore, he is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the\u00a0<\/strong>sidelines of the event.<\/b><\/p>\n

The SCO was created for collaboration<\/strong> in regional security<\/strong>, the fight against terrorism, ethnic separatism and religious extremism. Currently China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan<\/strong> are SCO members.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition, at the 24th SCO summit in Astana, Belarus<\/strong> is expected to become its 10th member<\/strong>. EFE<\/p>\n
