Miami, Dec 3 (EFE).- The\u00a0Foto Colectania Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0of Barcelona unveiled a\u00a0photography exhibition<\/strong>\u00a0on Tuesday at the\u00a0Art Basel Miami Beach fair<\/strong>, featuring 150 works by 36 photographers. The collection offers a compelling lens into the\u00a0evolution and transformation<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0Southern European societies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will remain on display until\u00a0April 26, 2025<\/strong>, at\u00a0The Margulies Collection at The Warehouse<\/strong>, marking the first time this institution has hosted a guest collection. Organized into\u00a020 thematic sequences across 10 sections<\/strong>, the exhibition reflects the\u00a0modernization process<\/strong>\u00a0that began in the\u00a01950s<\/strong>, both socially and within the photographic medium.<\/p>\n

Focusing on the Americas<\/h3>\n

Mario Rotllant, founder and president of the Foto Colectania Foundation<\/strong><\/a>, recalled in an interview with\u00a0Agencia EFE<\/strong>\u00a0that he began collecting photography\u00a025 years ago<\/strong>\u00a0with \u201can entirely public vocation.\u201d He emphasized that this exhibition is a significant step toward\u00a0internationally promoting Spanish photography<\/strong>, with the ultimate goal of establishing a\u00a0traveling program throughout the Americas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, titled\u00a0Beyond the Single Image: Spanish Photography from the Foto Colectania Collection<\/strong>, is curated by\u00a0Carles Guerra<\/strong>, who explained that the journey revisits\u00a0three generations of Spanish and Portuguese photography<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Based on a prior exhibition at Foto Colectania\u2019s Barcelona headquarters,\u00a0The Course of Events<\/strong>, this Miami presentation features works by notable authors such as\u00a0Laia Abril<\/strong>,\u00a0Cristina de Middel<\/strong>, and\u00a0Txema Salvans<\/strong>, alongside prominent figures like\u00a0Pilar Aymerich<\/strong>,\u00a0Joan Fontcuberta<\/strong>,\u00a0Manel Armengol<\/strong>,\u00a0Cristina Garc\u00eda Rodero<\/strong>,\u00a0Manolo Laguillo<\/strong>,\u00a0Alberto Garc\u00eda-Alix<\/strong>,\u00a0Leopoldo Pom\u00e9s<\/strong>,\u00a0Xavier Miserachs<\/strong>,\u00a0Ram\u00f3n Masats<\/strong>, and\u00a0Francisco G\u00f3mez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Art Basel Miami as a Platform for Spanish Photography<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Carles Guerra highlighted that presenting the exhibition in\u00a0Miami<\/strong>\u00a0demonstrates how\u00a0local stories<\/strong>\u00a0can take on broader perspectives. He described it as \u201ctranslating a very authentic narrative and making it accessible to other audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Photographer\u00a0Pilar Aymerich<\/strong> described the exhibition as \u201ca whole spectrum of images that give you a vision of the country.\u201d She stressed its role in documenting Spain\u2019s transition<\/strong>\u00a0after Franco\u2019s death in 1975. Her work captures\u00a0protests demanding legal reforms<\/strong>\u00a0and the emergence of\u00a01970s feminist movements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She praised the decision to expand the exhibition\u2019s reach beyond Spain<\/strong>, highlighting its ability to educate<\/strong> audiences about the country\u2019s history and perspectives.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes the most important thing is for different peoples to get to know each other because that\u2019s when we can accept the other. If we don\u2019t know each other, it\u2019s always the opposite\u2014there\u2019s always fear of the other,\u201d Aymerich said.<\/p>\n
