Santiago, Mar. 25 (EFE)<\/strong> \u2013 The president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)<\/strong><\/a>, Ilan Goldfajn<\/strong>, said Tuesday that all 48 member countries<\/strong>, including the United States, are \u201ccommitted to the region,\u201d<\/strong> and emphasized that the 65th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors<\/strong>, taking place this week in Santiago, Chile<\/strong>, would focus on \u201cissues that unite us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are 48 members and we are here (in Santiago), all committed to the region, committed to issues that unite us,\u201d said the Brazilian official at a press conference alongside Chilean Finance Minister Mario Marcel<\/strong>, the host of the gathering.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

IDB Meeting in Santiago Highlights Regional Unity<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The IDB Board of Governors<\/strong>\u2014comprising finance and economy ministers<\/strong> and senior officials from its 48 member countries<\/strong>\u2014will meet from March 28 to 30 in Santiago<\/strong> to address development challenges and opportunities<\/strong> in Latin America and the Caribbean<\/strong>, in collaboration with the private sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Running in parallel is the 39th Annual Meeting of the IDB Invest<\/a> Board of Governors<\/strong>. IDB Invest<\/strong>, the private-sector arm of the IDB, is responsible for 44% of the multilateral bank\u2019s operations<\/strong> in the region.<\/p>\n

Shared Priorities and Regional Growth<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In addition to plenary sessions, a series of seminars<\/strong> will begin on Wednesday<\/strong>, tackling pressing issues such as regional integration, poverty and hunger reduction, resilience to natural disasters, innovation for sustainable growth<\/strong>, and the importance of caregiving<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe region has issues and themes that matter to all of us, and we have to highlight that,\u201d Goldfajn said. \u201cThe IDB is the space where those shared priorities are transformed into concrete results.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The IDB provides $25 billion annually<\/strong> in financing and resource mobilization<\/strong> across Latin America and the Caribbean, aiming to exceed $38 billion per year by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Santiago Hosts 65th Annual IDB Meeting<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s symbolic that we are all here together (in Santiago) working for the region because if we have a prosperous and growing Latin America, we will also have a secure and prosperous hemisphere,\u201d the Inter-American Development Bank president added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This marks the first time since 2001<\/strong> that Chile is hosting the IDB Board of Governors meeting. <\/strong>It\u00a0is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants<\/strong> to the capital.<\/p>\n

Finance Minister Mario Marcel<\/strong> highlighted the economic benefits<\/strong> of the event:<\/p>\n
