Co-created with countries from the region, the initiative seeks to <strong data-start=\"492\" data-end=\"521\">bridge fragmented markets<\/strong> and attract investment by <strong data-start=\"548\" data-end=\"592\">strengthening physical and digital links<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"595\" data-end=\"642\">A Three-Pillar Strategy for Regional Growth<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"692\">The program is built on <strong data-start=\"668\" data-end=\"690\">three core pillars<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"694\" data-end=\"933\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"694\" data-end=\"805\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"696\" data-end=\"805\"><strong data-start=\"696\" data-end=\"720\">Physical connections<\/strong>\u2014through improved <strong data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"803\">roads, ports, waterways, electric grids, and digital networks<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"884\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"884\"><strong data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"824\">Value chains<\/strong>\u2014by developing <strong data-start=\"839\" data-end=\"882\">local production and market integration<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"933\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"933\"><strong data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"933\">Regulatory and institutional strengthening<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1236\">The initiative was unveiled in the <strong data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"989\">Chilean capital<\/strong> during the <strong data-start=\"1001\" data-end=\"1026\">IDB\u2019s Annual Meetings<\/strong>, which began Wednesday with thematic seminars and will run through Sunday. EFE\/Elvis Gonz\u00e1lez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1702\" data-end=\"1756\">Economic Integration as a Catalyst for Development<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1884\"><strong data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1777\">Anabel Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1779\" data-end=\"1840\">IDB Vice President for Countries and Regional Integration<\/strong>, emphasized during a panel discussion that:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1886\" data-end=\"2152\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"2152\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"1889\" data-end=\"1968\">Economic integration is a key driver of growth and sustainable development.<\/strong> Latin America and the Caribbean share borders, resources, and economic opportunities, and together we can scale solutions to attract investment and pool resources for greater impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2154\" data-end=\"2404\">The new program expands on the <strong data-start=\"2185\" data-end=\"2216\">Integration Routes alliance<\/strong>, launched under the <strong data-start=\"2237\" data-end=\"2259\">Brasilia Agreement<\/strong> signed in May 2023 and backed by the <strong data-start=\"2297\" data-end=\"2304\">IDB<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2306\" data-end=\"2318\">FONPLATA<\/strong>, Brazil\u2019s <strong data-start=\"2329\" data-end=\"2338\">BNDES<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2403\">CAF\u2013Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2406\" data-end=\"2644\">The <strong data-start=\"2410\" data-end=\"2417\">IDB<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2422\" data-end=\"2434\">FONPLATA<\/strong> also formalized a <strong data-start=\"2453\" data-end=\"2478\">cooperation agreement<\/strong> to deepen their bilateral collaboration, including co-financing opportunities for regional projects such as the <strong data-start=\"2591\" data-end=\"2613\">Integration Routes<\/strong>, now part of <strong data-start=\"2627\" data-end=\"2643\">Conexi\u00f3n Sur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2646\" data-end=\"2703\">Shared Regional Challenges and Cross-Border Solutions<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2705\" data-end=\"2980\">Despite progress, Gonz\u00e1lez acknowledged that \u201c<strong data-start=\"2751\" data-end=\"2782\">important challenges remain<\/strong>: integration levels in the region are still relatively low compared to other parts of the world, with limited advances in physical and digital connectivity, logistics, and cross-border efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2982\" data-end=\"3237\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2984\" data-end=\"3237\">\u201cAligning policies across countries is essential to create a broader, competitive environment that attracts private investment,\u201d she said, noting that the program renews efforts to \u201cbuild together and strengthen the region\u2019s role in the global economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3239\" data-end=\"3530\">Governors to the <strong data-start=\"3256\" data-end=\"3263\">IDB<\/strong> and senior representatives from <strong data-start=\"3296\" data-end=\"3386\">Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"3392\" data-end=\"3403\">Uruguay<\/strong> joined Goldfajn in signing a <strong data-start=\"3433\" data-end=\"3459\">declaration of support<\/strong> for the program, which had been requested by South American countries.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1120px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-rss-efe-singlepost-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/rss-efedb3dcb7402ea430d8c381c3e9053d4eb6d679362w-1120x747.jpg\" alt=\"Former IDB President Enrique Iglesias during the second day of the 2025 Annual Meetings of the IDB and IDB Invest Boards of Governors in Santiago.
