Santiago, Mar 29 (EFE).\u2014<\/strong> The upcoming Inter-American Development Bank<\/a> (IDB) Annual Meeting<\/strong> of the Board of Governors, scheduled for March 2026 in Asunci\u00f3n<\/strong>, will be a key opportunity for Paraguay to present its potential<\/strong> on the international stage, Finance and Economy Minister Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez Valdovinos<\/strong> told EFE on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be a great opportunity to host representatives from more than 48 countries\u2014around 3,000 people\u2014and to show what Paraguay is today and all the potential it has,\u201d said the minister.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Macroeconomic Strengths and Growth Outlook<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Fern\u00e1ndez Valdovinos emphasized that Paraguay boasts the strongest macroeconomic indicators in South America<\/strong>, both in terms of economic growth<\/strong> and social inclusion<\/strong>. He added that the country is positioned to be a model for sustainable economic and social development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Paraguay\u2019s economy grew by 4.2%<\/strong>, outperforming the Central Bank\u2019s 4% projection. The 2025 outlook remains strong, with expected GDP growth of 3.8%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Inflation remained under control<\/strong>, closing 2024 at 3.8%<\/strong>, while monetary poverty fell to 20.1%<\/strong>, its lowest level since the current methodology was introduced, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

An Opportunity to Reintroduce Paraguay<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cWe want everyone attending the Assembly to see Paraguay\u2019s style,\u201d said Fern\u00e1ndez Valdovinos from Santiago<\/strong>, where the 2024 IDB Annual Meeting<\/strong> took place from Wednesday through Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The 2026 event will mark the third time Paraguay has hosted the IDB Board of Governors<\/strong>, a gathering that includes finance and economy ministers<\/strong> and senior officials from the bank\u2019s 48 member countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Held in parallel, the IDB Invest Board of Governors meeting<\/strong> will also take place in Asunci\u00f3n. IDB Invest is the private-sector arm of the IDB<\/strong>, responsible for 44% of the bank\u2019s operations<\/strong> across Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

Global Outlook and Long-Term Integration<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cParaguay has an open economy. It is, by nature, outward-looking and integration-minded, and we\u2019re going to continue pushing to remain integrated with the world\u2014especially in these turbulent times,\u201d said the minister, who previously served as Central Bank governor (2013\u20132018)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Founded in 1959<\/strong>, the Inter-American Development Bank<\/strong> is one of the region\u2019s leading sources of long-term financing for economic, social, and institutional development<\/strong>. The IDB\u2019s three largest shareholders<\/strong> are the United States, Argentina, and Brazil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The bank currently provides $25 billion annually<\/strong> in financing and aims to increase this to $38 billion per year by 2030<\/strong>, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for regional development. EFE<\/p>\n
