Santiago, Mar 30 (EFE).-<\/strong>\u00a0The Inter-American Development Bank<\/a> (IDB)<\/strong> concluded its annual meeting<\/strong> in the Chilean capital<\/strong> on Sunday with a strong commitment to advancing institutional reforms<\/strong> and leveraging opportunities for regional integration<\/strong> amid an increasingly complex global landscape.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis meeting showed that we are flexible and resilient\u2014and that\u2019s what makes us strong,\u201d said IDB President Ilan Goldfajn<\/a><\/strong> during the closing session. \u201cWe came together around shared interests and supported the strategy implementation process. It has given us the strength to keep moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Boards of Governors<\/strong> of the IDB and IDB Invest<\/strong>, composed of finance and economy ministers<\/strong> from the bank\u2019s 48 member countries<\/strong>, are the institution\u2019s highest decision-making bodies.<\/p>\n

Strategic Reforms and Implementation Progress<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At last year’s\u00a0meeting in Punta Cana<\/strong>, governors adopted a new strategic framework under the IDB Impact+<\/strong> brand and approved a $3.5 billion capital increase<\/strong> for IDB Invest<\/strong>, the private-sector arm of the bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in full implementation mode,\u201d Goldfajn confirmed, noting that 19 countries have subscribed shares<\/strong>, while 14 others have made significant progress<\/strong>, together representing over 70% of IDB voting power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Regional Unity in Uncertain Times<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The meeting wrapped up just days before the anticipated implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s reciprocal tariffs<\/strong>, expected to take effect on April 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s too early to assess the impact,\u201d said Goldfajn, emphasizing instead that \u201cregional integration<\/strong> is what we can and must work on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He highlighted the bank\u2019s 48-member structure<\/strong> as a key advantage in uniting efforts and maximizing impact.<\/p>\n

Chile\u2019s Role and Looking Ahead to 2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mario Marcel<\/strong>, Chile\u2019s Finance Minister<\/strong> and new Board of Governors Chair<\/strong>, recognized that 2025 will be a globally challenging year<\/strong>, reinforcing the need for strong regional communication and coordinated development strategies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tone of the meeting was very constructive,\u201d Marcel said at the press conference, underlining the importance of increasing the quality and volume<\/strong> of IDB operations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This year\u2019s event began Wednesday with seminars focused on shared priorities such as connectivity, disaster preparedness, and care systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
