Astana, Apr 3 (EFE).\u2013<\/strong> Kazakhstan\u2019s president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev<\/strong>, met Thursday with the heads of the European Council<\/strong> and the European Commission<\/strong>, Antonio Costa<\/strong> and Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong>, to discuss economic cooperation<\/strong> between Astana and Brussels ahead of the Central Asia\u2013European Union summit<\/strong><\/a> taking place the following day in Samarkand<\/strong>, Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n

\"SAMARKAND,<\/p>\n

Priority Areas for Kazakhstan\u2013EU Cooperation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

During his meeting with von der Leyen, Tokayev highlighted four strategic areas where Kazakhstan seeks to deepen its partnership with the European Union.<\/p>\n

These areas include:
\u201cEnergy, infrastructure and industrial projects, development of transport and logistics networks, digital innovation, advanced technologies, and artificial intelligence<\/strong>,\u201d he said, according to a statement from the Kazakh presidency.<\/p>\n

Von der Leyen Emphasizes Transport and Logistics Projects<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Von der Leyen, in turn, underscored the significance of improving transport and logistics<\/strong>, especially the Trans-Caspian Corridor<\/strong>, an alternative trade route between Asia and Europe that bypasses Russia. She also congratulated Tokayev on the discovery of a large rare metals deposit<\/strong> in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n

Talks with European Council President Antonio Costa<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a separate meeting with Antonio Costa<\/strong>, Tokayev addressed opportunities for expanding cooperation across a range of sectors. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a dynamic partnership<\/strong> based on mutual trust and shared strategic interests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kazakhstan\u2013EU Trade Continues to Grow<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The European Union remains Kazakhstan\u2019s top trading partner<\/strong>, accounting for over 40% of direct foreign investment<\/strong> in the country. Last year, bilateral trade rose by 17%<\/strong>, reaching nearly $50 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Central Asia\u2013EU Cooperation Summit in Samarkand<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The first Central Asia\u2013European Union summit<\/strong> will gather the presidents of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan<\/strong>, and Turkmenistan<\/strong> in the historic Uzbek city of Samarkand<\/strong>. EFE<\/p>\n
