Rio de Janeiro, Aug 1 (EFE).-<\/strong>\u00a0A multisensory cultural and culinary<\/strong> journey set against the backdrop of Rio de Janeiro\u2019s iconic beaches<\/strong> is the latest tourism initiative designed to turn the city into a vibrant showcase for Brazil.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The cultural and culinary route in Rio<\/strong> begins at Leme Beach, winds through Copacabana, and ends in Ipanema. It highlights traditional coastal Brazilian fare while paying tribute to celebrated figures in the country\u2019s music and literature<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cRio is known for its natural beauty. But it also has a rich history full of music, literature, and flavors, like those found at beach kiosks and in the botecos (bars), which are the heart of Rio\u2019s gastronomy,\u201d<\/strong> said Marcelo Freixo, president of the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur<\/a>), in an interview with EFE.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In addition to sun, sand, and striking landscapes, Rio\u2019s beaches offer a cultural and historical narrative<\/strong> of Brazil that provides tourists with \u201cmore democratic access\u201d<\/strong> to the country, Freixo noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd since the Rio waterfront is the city\u2019s most iconic image,\u201d<\/strong> he added, \u201cthere\u2019s no better place to host this kind of multisensory experience.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A deeper look at the Embratur Route: Where it goes and what to expect<\/h2>\n

The Embratur Route<\/strong> includes stops at five kiosks along the Orla do Rio boardwalk<\/strong>, which lines the city\u2019s main beaches. Each stop features a menu inspired by regional cuisines<\/strong> from across Brazil.<\/p>\n

At every point along the route, visitors encounter a figure from Brazilian music or literature<\/strong>, commemorated in statues, and enjoy a dish that \u201ctells a piece of Brazil\u2019s story.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

From the wave-patterned promenade<\/strong> designed by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx<\/strong> to the introspective prose of Clarice Lispector<\/strong>, the experience becomes a journey into the soul of Brazil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The route honors samba<\/strong>, featuring Martinho da Vila<\/strong>, a Rio icon of the genre, and Moacyr Luz<\/strong>, whose music has helped shape Brazilian popular culture.<\/p>\n

Other highlights include Tom Jobim\u2019s<\/strong> bossa nova\u2014immortalized in The Girl from Ipanema<\/em>\u2014the tropicalismo<\/strong> of Dorival Caymmi<\/strong>, whose songs celebrate Bahia\u2019s coastal roots<\/strong>, and the modernist poetry<\/strong> of Carlos Drummond de Andrade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As for flavors, visitors can sample coastal recipes fused with contemporary culinary trends<\/strong>, many of which were featured in the Sabores da Orla (Flavors of the Boardwalk)<\/strong> competition.<\/p>\n

The route begins at Mureta do Leme<\/strong>, passes through the Coisas de Bamba<\/strong> and Tropik<\/strong> kiosks in Copacabana, and ends at Quase Nove<\/strong> and Sel D\u2019Ipanema<\/strong> in Ipanema.<\/p>\n

Rio tourism on the rise with international visitors<\/h2>\n

Embratur<\/strong> expects the new route to help build on Brazil\u2019s momentum after a record-setting year for international tourism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2024<\/strong>, Brazil welcomed 6.8 million foreign visitors<\/strong>, generating $7.3 billion<\/strong> in spending. Rio de Janeiro<\/strong> alone hosted 1.5 million visitors<\/strong>, making it the second most visited state<\/strong> after S\u00e3o Paulo. Tourism in Rio produced $1.3 billion in public revenue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than a beach destination, Rio is becoming a cultural gateway to Brazil,\u201d<\/strong> Freixo emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Brazil\u2019s 2025 outlook: strong numbers, stronger experiences<\/h2>\n

Brazil is projected to receive 8.1 million international tourists<\/strong> in 2025<\/strong>, though that number may rise. By midyear, 5.3 million foreign travelers<\/strong> had already arrived.<\/p>\n
