Astana, Oct 29 (EFE).-<\/strong>\u00a0Kazakhstan<\/strong> is reviewing the future of its joint oil and gas projects<\/strong> with Russia\u2019s Lukoil<\/strong> after the sanctioned energy giant said it plans to sell all of its overseas assets<\/strong>, Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov<\/strong> confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have not yet discussed this issue (the purchase of Lukoil\u2019s stakes in Kazakh projects). We are studying the sanctions and need to assess their impact on companies and the economy,\u201d Akkenzhenov told reporters Tuesday in Astana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lukoil holds major stakes in strategic Kazakh energy fields<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Lukoil, which has operated in Kazakhstan for three decades<\/strong>, holds stakes in several large international consortia<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    Tengiz (5%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Karachaganak (13.5%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Caspian Pipeline Consortium (12.5%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    It also shares a 50-50 offshore partnership<\/strong> with KazMunayGas<\/strong> in the Kalamkas-Khazar project<\/strong> in the Caspian Sea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    According to official figures, Lukoil has:<\/p>\n

      Invested over $12 billion<\/strong> in Kazakhstan\u2019s energy sector<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Produced 94 million tons of crude<\/strong> and 60 billion cubic meters of gas<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Contributed $300 million<\/strong> to social programs<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Asset sale announcement triggers market reaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The review follows a 7.1% drop<\/strong> in Lukoil\u2019s share price on the Moscow Exchange<\/strong> on Tuesday.
      The decline came after the company said late Monday that it intends to divest from all international operations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      \u201cLukoil reports that, due to the introduction of restrictive measures against the company and its subsidiaries by certain countries, it is announcing its intention to sell its international assets,\u201d the firm said in a statement.<\/p>\n

      It added that it has \u201cbegun evaluating transactions with potential buyers.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The move, according to the Russian business daily RBC, aims to mitigate the\u00a0risks associated with Western sanctions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Sanctions tighten on Russia\u2019s major oil producers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The U.S. government<\/strong> last week sanctioned Rosneft<\/strong> and Lukoil<\/strong>, Russia\u2019s two largest oil companies<\/strong>, in an effort to increase pressure on Moscow<\/strong> to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
