Astana, Jan 28 (EFE).\u2014<\/strong> Oil tankers attacked by Ukrainian drones<\/strong> two weeks ago in the Black Sea<\/strong> were not part of any shadow fleet<\/strong>, Kazakhstan\u2019s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov<\/strong> said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese tankers did not belong to any \u2018grey\u2019 fleet, so to speak. They were not under restrictions, nor were they on any blacklist,\u201d Akkenzhenov told reporters after addressing parliament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

No link to Russia\u2019s \u201cshadow fleet\u201d<\/h2>\n

Kazakhstan said the two tankers attacked in January near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC)<\/strong> were unrelated to Russia\u2019s so-called shadow fleet<\/strong>, which transports oil while evading international sanctions.<\/p>\n

The ministry added that the vessels could have been properly identified<\/strong> and were operating legally.<\/p>\n

At the time of the attack, the tankers were almost 140 kilometers from Novorossiysk Bay<\/strong>, where CPC facilities are located.<\/p>\n

KazMunayGaz confirms tanker status<\/h2>\n

On Jan. 13<\/strong>, Kazakhstan\u2019s state oil and gas company KazMunayGaz<\/strong> reported that unidentified drones hit tankers waiting in the Black Sea to be loaded.<\/p>\n

According to the company, \u201cthe vessel Matilda<\/strong> was chartered by Kazmortransflot<\/strong>,\u201d a subsidiary of KazMunayGaz.<\/p>\n

Export losses and restoration of operations<\/h2>\n

Akkenzhenov said attacks on infrastructure linked to the CPC caused Kazakhstan to lose exports of about 3.8 million tonnes of oil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Operations at the consortium have since been fully restored<\/strong> and it \u201cis currently operating at full capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Two new offshore loading units<\/strong> are expected to arrive from the United Arab Emirates<\/strong> within a month and will require an additional 40 days<\/strong> to be installed.<\/p>\n

CPC condemns attacks on civilian infrastructure<\/h2>\n

The CPC, which includes companies from Kazakhstan, the United States, Russia and several European countries<\/strong>, accused Ukraine in November of \u201cattacking the interests of the participating countries<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to stress that this is the third attack on an exclusively civilian structure protected by international law. Previously, the Kropotkinskaya pumping station<\/strong> and CPC offices in Novorossiysk<\/strong> were attacked,\u201d the consortium said.<\/p>\n

Key role of CPC in Kazakhstan\u2019s exports<\/h2>\n

In 2024<\/strong>, the CPC pipeline transported more than 63 million tonnes of oil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
