Wood Mackenzie, a global leader in energy research, data and consultancy, in partnership with nonprofit Let’s Share the Sun Foundation,\u202fhas announced\u202ftheir latest project dedicated to bringing solar power to underserved communities. Together, with other donors, they have funded installation of a solar power and energy storage system at a critical shelter serving women and children\u202ffleeing domestic violence\u202fin Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
The solar\u00a0and energy storage\u00a0installation\u00a0project,\u00a0which held a\u00a0ribbon cutting on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2026), will provide reliable, affordable renewable energy to the shelter, which\u00a0hosted\u00a079 residents\u201448 women and 31 children\u2014\u00a0and\u00a0in total serviced more than 5,000 at-risk\u00a0community members\u00a0in 2024 alone. The\u00a0new\u00a0system\u00a0will\u00a0save the shelter approximately $700 per month, freeing vital funds for rehabilitation services and direct support to survivors of domestic violence.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Comprehensive Solar Solution<\/h3>\n
The installation features a 20.7 kW DC solar array designed to meet 100% of the shelter’s energy consumption.\u00a0A\u00a045\u00a0kWh\u00a0energy storage\u00a0system will provide reliable backup power to ensure uninterrupted operations during grid outages.<\/p>\n
