It is not only imprudent, but it is something that is practically never done,\u201d the Kremlin leader said at a press conference at the end of his <a href=\"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/en\/putin-arrives-kazakhstan-bilateral-talks-tokayev-eurasian-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visit to Kazakhstan<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Putin explained that his previous remark was based on his assessment of \u201cthe situation on the battlefield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd our troops are advancing in all directions there, every day,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian leader acknowledged that <strong>negotiations<\/strong> aimed at ending the war are currently <strong>\u201con pause,\u201d<\/strong> but said that certain contacts with U.S. mediators continue.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere are certain contacts, I am not hiding that (&#8230;) but there are no negotiations as such,\u201d he told reporters in Astana.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At the same time, he insisted that Russia remains willing to resume the negotiation process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready. We have never refused to negotiate. We were not the ones who stopped the negotiations. We are prepared to listen to proposals,\u201d Putin said.<\/p>\n<p>The last trilateral meeting aimed at ending the war took place in February in Geneva.
