{"id":228492,"date":"2026-05-30T00:25:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T22:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/?p=228492"},"modified":"2026-05-30T21:04:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T19:04:24","slug":"putin-says-origin-drone-that-struck-romanian-building-unclear-calls-evidence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/en\/putin-says-origin-drone-that-struck-romanian-building-unclear-calls-evidence\/","title":{"rendered":"Putin says origin of drone that struck Romanian building is unclear, calls for evidence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Astana, May 29 (EFE).- Russian President <strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong> said on Friday that the origin of the <strong>drone<\/strong> that struck a residential building in a <strong>Romanian city<\/strong> near the Ukrainian border has not been established and called on Bucharest to provide evidence that it was a Russian device.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one can determine the origin (of the drone) until an examination of the device has been carried out,\u201d the Kremlin leader said at a press conference at the end of his three-day visit to Kazakhstan to attend the <strong>Eurasian Economic Union summit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Putin said he was unaware of the details of the incident until shortly before the press conference.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Moscow is prepared to <strong>\u201cconduct an objective investigation\u201d<\/strong> and only afterward issue its assessment of what occurred.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he emphasized that on previous occasions, when <strong>Ukrainian drones<\/strong> entered the airspace of neighboring countries, initial assumptions often pointed to Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly, this is a similar situation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h3>Russian Foreign Ministry says Western countries diverting attention<\/h3>\n<p>Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman <strong>Maria Zakharova<\/strong> claimed that Western countries were creating \u201cnoise\u201d around the incident in Romania in order to <strong>\u201cdivert attention\u201d<\/strong> from a recent deadly Ukrainian attack on a student residence in the occupied Luhansk region, which Russia says left 21 people dead.<\/p>\n<p>Zakharova also argued that <strong>Romania needed a justification for closing the Russian consulate<\/strong> and had now found one, adding that Moscow\u2019s response to that measure would not be long in coming.<\/p>\n<p>The drone struck an apartment building early Friday morning in the Romanian city of Gala\u021bi, near the Ukrainian border, triggering a fire that caused <strong>minor injuries to two people<\/strong>, according to Romanian authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Romania announced that it would take proportionate measures following the incident and requested that <strong>NATO deploy additional air-defense systems<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly afterward, Bucharest announced the <strong>closure of Russia\u2019s Consulate General in Constan\u021ba<\/strong> and declared the Russian consul \u201cpersona non grata.\u201d EFE<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Astana, May 29 (EFE).- Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that the origin of the drone that struck a residential building in a Romanian city near the Ukrainian border [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":198164071,"featured_media":228493,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_feature_clip_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[124542,123779],"tags":[124444],"class_list":["post-228492","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-conflict","category-politics","tag-kazakhstan"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
