{"id":237799,"date":"2026-07-26T16:06:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T14:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/?p=237799"},"modified":"2026-07-26T20:22:37","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T18:22:37","slug":"kazakh-president-calls-for-freezing-ukraine-conflict-in-meeting-with-putin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/en\/kazakh-president-calls-for-freezing-ukraine-conflict-in-meeting-with-putin\/","title":{"rendered":"Kazakh president calls for \u201cfreezing\u201d Ukraine conflict in meeting with Putin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Moscow, Jul 25 (EFE).- Kazakh President <strong>Kassym-Jomart Tokayev<\/strong> called on Saturday for a freeze in the war in <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, <strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps the time has come to <strong>freeze<\/strong> this conflict and return to an \u2018Istanbul Formula 2.0\u2019 given that significant results were achieved there,\u201d Tokayev told Putin during a meeting in the Russian city of Omsk.<\/p>\n<p>The Kazakh leader, according to the Interfax news agency, added that any freezing of hostilities should be achieved \u201cnaturally, under the guarantees of the great powers, including Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All of this is necessary to \u201cmove toward a long-awaited peace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tokayev also expressed <strong>Kazakhstan\u2019s respect for the Ukrainian people<\/strong> and their culture.<\/p>\n<p>He further noted that the Russia-Ukraine war has an interstate character that is <strong>difficult to fully understand<\/strong> from the outside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nature of this conflict is not entirely clear to many, including us. For example, if it is a conflict such as the frozen conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the essence and origins of that conflict are perfectly clear to us, as they go back to history. But here, it is very difficult to understand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tokayev also reaffirmed Kazakhstan\u2019s commitment to <strong>strategic cooperation<\/strong> with neighboring Russia, which he described as a \u201cgreat country\u201d with a \u201cgreat people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, several months after the start of Russia\u2019s military operation in Ukraine, the Kazakh leader stated in the presence of Putin that Astana would never recognize the independence of the Ukrainian regions of <strong>Donetsk and Luhansk<\/strong> annexed by Russia.
