{"id":99562,"date":"2024-02-05T15:04:31","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T14:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/?p=99562"},"modified":"2024-02-05T15:17:24","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T14:17:24","slug":"kazakhstan-government-resigns-to-boost-economic-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/efecomunica.efe.com\/en\/kazakhstan-government-resigns-to-boost-economic-reforms\/","title":{"rendered":"Kazakhstan government resigns to boost economic reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Astana, Feb 5 (EFE).- The government of <strong>Kazakhstan<\/strong> resigned en masse on Monday, a move accepted by the president of the Central Asian republic, <strong>Kassym-Jomart Tokayev<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tokayev had previously emphasized the need for <strong>deep reforms<\/strong> to liberalize the <strong>economy<\/strong> and increase foreign investment in what is known as Central Asia\u2019s economic <strong>powerhouse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the relevant decree, the president accepted the resignation of <strong>Alikhan Smailov<\/strong>&#8216;s government and appointed <strong>Roman Sklyar<\/strong> as acting prime minister.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The members of the <strong>government<\/strong> of Kazakhstan will continue to perform their duties until the new executive is approved,&#8221; the <strong>decree<\/strong> added, coming into effect upon the signature of the Kazakh president.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a recent discussion with Italian businessmen, <strong>Tokayev<\/strong> said, &#8220;Kazakhstan will soon undertake significant and profound reforms that will make our economy more <strong>transparent<\/strong>, <strong>stable<\/strong>, and <strong>dynamic<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He also scheduled for <strong>Feb. 7<\/strong> an expanded government <strong>session<\/strong> to &#8220;review the country&#8217;s economic and social development in 2023 and set the main goals for the upcoming period.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The president added that the reforms aim to achieve <strong>economic development<\/strong> in line with the norms and business development mechanisms of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (<strong>OECD<\/strong>) and thus open Kazakhstan to <strong>foreign<\/strong> investments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While the attention now is on the composition of the new cabinet, the focus over the next few days will be on the Feb. 7 extended government session with the participation of President Tokayev,\u201d Deputy Foreign Minister <strong>Roman Vassilenko<\/strong> noted.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is at this session that the President had earlier <strong>promised<\/strong> to present a <strong>vision<\/strong> of a new economic policy for Kazakhstan to make its economy more <strong>resilient<\/strong>, <strong>diversified<\/strong>, and <strong>fair<\/strong>, while also more attractive for<strong> foreign investment<\/strong>,&#8221; Vassilenko said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kazakh political scientist <strong>Talgat Kaliyev<\/strong> linked the resignation to the president&#8217;s <strong>dissatisfaction<\/strong> with the cabinet&#8217;s management, which he has repeatedly criticized over the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The <strong>resignation<\/strong> is <strong>connected<\/strong> to the future economic <strong>development<\/strong> of Kazakhstan&#8230; The president criticized the government for its inability to propose an effective economic strategy,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <strong>political<\/strong> scientist, &#8220;Smailov&#8217;s government has definitely <strong>exhausted<\/strong> its credit of trust.&#8221; EFE<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Astana, Feb 5 (EFE).- The government of Kazakhstan resigned en masse on Monday, a move accepted by the president of the Central Asian republic, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
