San Juan, May 18 (EFE).- The opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) are to be the focus of a new forum organized under the partnership between GFR Media and Agencia EFE, set to take place on Wednesday, May 20, in Puerto Rico.
Under the title “AI Revolution: An Opportunity for Business in Puerto Rico,” the forum is to feature prominent representatives from the public and private sectors who will discuss how artificial intelligence is transforming industries and creating new growth opportunities.
The event, which is to take place at Caribbean Cinemas in San Juan, is to open with an overview of what AI represents in the current era, followed by a keynote presentation by Herbert Lewy, General Manager of Microsoft for Central America and the Caribbean.
The first roundtable discussion, “AI Transforming Key Sectors in Puerto Rico,” is to examine, through a multisector approach, the integration of technological tools in government agencies, public education, banking, healthcare innovation, and infrastructure.
Roundtable participants include representatives from the Government of Puerto Rico: Sebastián Negrón Reichard, Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce, and Beverly Morro, Secretary of Academic Affairs at the Department of Education.
Joining them from the private sector, in addition to Lewy, are Banco Popular Vice President of Innovation, Technology, and Operations Camille Burckhart, Abarca Health President Adriana Ramírez, and Claro CEO Enrique Ortiz de Montellano.
The second roundtable, titled “Artificial Intelligence in Human Resources and SMEs,” is to examine the solutions and challenges AI presents for small and medium-sized businesses, among other topics.
Panelists include economist and Inteligencia Económica founder Gustavo Vélez, Sociedad para la Gerencia de Recursos Humanos President Juan Felipe Santos, and Evertec Chief Product & Innovation Officer Mike Vizcarrondo.
Technological tools
To conclude the forum, Agencia EFE and the media outlet El Nuevo Día will present their own case studies explaining how they incorporate technological tools while addressing ethical considerations in news and journalism practices.
The presentations will be led by Agencia EFE Director of Technology and Systems Juan Manuel Ruiz García and El Nuevo Día Digital Strategy Director Carlos Martínez.
This will be the third international forum organized by GFR Media and Agencia EFE in Puerto Rico as part of an alliance designed to address key issues for the island and the broader Hispanic world.
The partnership began in 2025 with the forums “Educational Tourism: Puerto Rico as an Academic Destination” and “Puerto Rico as a Global Hub for Music and Entertainment,” both held successfully in San Juan.
Agencia EFE is the world’s leading Spanish-language news agency with a powerful global network of journalists operating in more than 100 countries. GFR Media is a Puerto Rican company that operates a broad range of digital and print platforms, including El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora. EFE
