Atletico de Madrid chairman presents academy project to Kazakh president

Astana, Jun 11 (EFE).- Atletico Madrid Chairman Enrique Cerezo Tuesday presented to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev the project for the creation of a soccer academy in the city of Talgar, in the southeast of this Central Asian republic.

The Kazakh leader, who received the Atletico chief at Akorda, his official residence, thanked him for his willingness to share his experience and to support the development of soccer in the country, the president’s press office said.

According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan, where about 40,000 children are enrolled in soccer schools, pays special attention to promoting the sport, building new stadiums and improving existing infrastructure.

The head of state stressed that the government fully supports the creation of the Atletico Madrid academy, which will be based at the Talgar Olympic Center, located on the outskirts of Almaty, Kazakhstan’s former capital and its most populous city.

In turn, Cerezo pointed out that there are Atletico Madrid academies in many countries that help young talent to play in the best leagues in the world. EFE
