Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Feb 20 (EFE).- The Joroperos group beat out eight other parade participants to take first prize at the Rhythm and Harmony contest held at the weekend during Carnival festivities in the Spanish city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Bahía Bahitiare came in second place and Tropicana placed third, while Cariocas received honorable mention and the Estandarte banner, the Santa Cruz City Council said in a statement.Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the most popular festivals in Spain. It is a cultural celebration held annually in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is located on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The festival is known for its vibrant and colorful costumes, music, and dancing.
Thousands of people followed the parade from the sidewalks and terraces along the entire route and from the stands near the Plaza de España.
Additionally, Saturday’s performance was broadcast live on RTVE’s La 2 HD channel across the country, except in the Canary Islands, where it was blocked, and worldwide on RTVE’s international channel, TVE Internacional. Televisión Canaria broadcast it deferred on Sunday.
In addition to the carnival groups, called comparsas, the 2023 Carnival Queen, her court of honor, and six other participants in the Santa Cruz festivities’ beauty pageant also took part in the parade.
Prizes were also given for the decorated floats and cars that participated in Friday’s parade.
In the first category, El Merengazo Association’s float ‘La Leyenda de Guayota’ won first place, while Carroza Since 2014 Carnival Association’s ‘Galáctica’ came in second and Los Nietos de Nena’s ‘Recuérdame’ took third.
Las Canchanchanas won the decorated cars category, followed by La Carroza de Tacoronte and Así Somos. EFE
