Beijing, Mar 29 (EFE).- Kazakhstan’s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, called for “unity and cooperation among Asian nations” in the face of “global challenges” during his speech at the annual Boao Forum for Asia, held on China’s southern Hainan Island.
In his address at the forum’s opening ceremony on Thursday, Tokayev emphasized the significance of “regional collaboration” to “usher in a new era of sustainable development” in Asia, the local China News Service reported.
The Kazakh leader highlighted Asia’s role as a “global economic growth engine” and praised the region’s “resilience” and “innovative capacity.”
Tokayev outlined six key areas for future cooperation, including the establishment of a “fair and open multilateral trading system,” the “revitalization of the global financial framework,” and “food security.”
Moreover, he underscored the strategic importance of “cross-border transport” and infrastructure investment, as well as collaboration in technology, particularly in artificial intelligence, where he valued China’s initiative for global governance on the technology.
The president said Kazakhstan was ready to cooperate in the exploitation of rare earths and to work towards “more efficient” mining.
Tokayev also met with Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC, Legislative), on Thursday.
The Central Asian country’s leader said he was looking forward to the forthcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kazakhstan in July while highlighting the friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China.
Zhao welcomed Tokayev and stressed that his country was eager to “deepen cooperation” and “achieve strategic objectives” with Kazakhstan. EFE
