Santa Cruz de Tenerife preparing for a historic Carnival

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, Feb 16 (EFE).- The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council presented on Thursday the schedule of activities for the Street Carnival that will feature official acts as well as concerts that will take place on the three stages located in the Carnival ‘Quadrilateral’.

The activities begin Friday and end on Sunday, February 26.

Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the most popular festivals in Spain. It is a cultural celebration held annually in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is located on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The festival is known for its vibrant and colorful costumes, music, and dancing.

The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, presented the program of events together with the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, and the representatives of the more than 50 Canarian orchestras that will perform during the festivities.

Bermúdez said that the city council has opted for Canarian orchestras, which means hiring more than a thousand people including singers, dancers, musicians, production personnel, and technicians.

In 2021 and 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the carnival was canceled or held in a limited format. However, organizers are planning for a full-scale celebration in 2023, so visitors can experience the magic of Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife once again.

Cabello noted the economic impact of Carnival “after two very complicated years due to sanitary restrictions and we are preparing to experience intense days in which carnival men and women will crowd our streets.”

This year, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is preparing for a historic Carnival with a high influx of people. All hotels and vacation spots in the city are booked, and some airlines and maritime lines have reinforced their routes to accommodate demand. EFE
